Living After Midnight! Rocking 'Til The Dawn!

Why the fuck wasn't I born earlier? Why wasn't I here? Anyone who hasn't seen Heavy Metal Parking Lot should probably buy it, or just borrow it from me. Drunk American youths hanging out before a Judas Priest show in Virginia I think, 1986. Classic.

Skateboarding + Balloons = The Most Fun Ever.

My friend Zia posted this on Charlie Cotone's MySpace page and it looks like the most fun I've seen in a long time. Hoooly shit! Maybe we should do this at the Marnix Pool around the corner!

The '59 Sound

God Damn. I love this band. This shit is so good. Just the simple melody of those first notes on the guitar are so fucking moving. Completely on par with the first time I heard Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run or Thunder Road. Yess, it's that good. It's a mix of rock and soul and punk with such melancholy and catchiness that makes every track completely epic. It's perfect for dancing on a saturday night, or for listening to on your iPod when it's raining outside on a sunday morning. In short, it's about all I've been listening to for the last few weeks.
I saw them at Generation Records in New York this summer with Gabe (thanks Vinnie), playing for a crowd of maybe 60 kids in their basement and I think it could've been the best thing ever if only I had heard of them at that point. It was good, but the sound was too poor to pick out the genius of the melodies and lyrics and I was content standing on the side taking pictures and watching people enjoy them so much. If only I had followed Yvo's advice a year ago to check out their debut record.. but well, so it goes, so it goes.

Anyway, they're playing at the Melkweg on the 1st of March. Santina is DJ'ing and I can't fucking wait! If you want guestlist spots go bother Santina on her MySpace page or something. It's going to be good.

Life Is Fucking Short & Youth Is Fucking Fleeting!

Sometimes hardcore still feels alive, dangerous even. Like it has meaning and the power to actually change something. Even if it's just the life of that one kid in the crowd who's first hardcore show this is and has no fucking idea of what's going on except he's having his mind blown by the intensity of it all. I know it makes me want to scream and jump on my couch still. Hardcore can be just some stupid powerchords, mosh parts and breakdowns, or it can be about feeling something, experiencing something, about community, shared experiences, bringing people together and opening up to eachother. This video falls into the latter category, and I think it's fucking awesome.
7 Generations covering Trial's Reflections with Greg Bennick going off about suffering and the urgency of life and embracing your suffering and embracing the joy of life and reaching out for life and grabbing it by the throat. Right here, right now!

And it's giving me goosebumps and making me want to stagedive on my couch!! Go!!

In the words of Goethe:

He Only Earns His Freedom And His Life Who Takes Them Everyday By Storm.

Fuck yeah!!

And Now I Want To Go To San Fransisco!

I took this video from my buddy and roommate Patrick's blogspot, we're both wishing it would stop raining today and those wet fallen leaves on the road would stop making the concrete into one big slip'n'slide. So we're watching crazy trackbike video's of kids in San Fransisco. If someone has a 1.000 Euro's lying around and wants to donate it to my plane ticket fund. Feel free to get in touch!

Diamant

I love riding my bike around this town! The cobblestone streets and dodging tourists in Dam Street, riding next to the canals in the early winter sun, skidding around corners, hopping over tram tracks, racing cars and scooters and getting everywhere in this town within 20 minutes. If only it would stop raining so much.

Stay Young And Dumb And Awesome.

So, what's up. As if i didn't spent enough time behind the internet as it is, i deceided to start one of these as well. I mean, if Fucked Up does it, why shouldn't I, right? Right.
I have no idea if I'm actually going to keep this thing updated, but since I'm trying to finish up my degree in graphic design/visual communication this year,Ii'll be spending a lot of time behind my Mac Powerbook. probably doing what i do best.... putting the 'pro' in procrastinating!
I just turned 28 and it's really time to finish up this school business, even if it was only so I'd have some more time to save up some money, travel, cause trouble, ride my bike, go to shows, go dancing, read books, play bass, call in sick, sleep in late, drink coffee and all that good stuff.
Or, oh wait, I already do all those things and I never do a damn thing for school. There's just too many distractions in this town, too many movies to watch, too many friends to hang out with. Anyway, here it is, my first blog post. Thanx for reading.

Stay young and dumb and awesome.
